Double Exposure blackjack is one of the many variants of the classic casino game, blackjack. This version of the game is played more or less the same as the classic blackjack 21 version, with the exception of a few added rules, which we’ll cover in this guide.
Additionally, we also explain how to play Double Exposure blackjack and uncover some of the other notable differences between Double Exposure and blackjack 21.
There are many reasons why each blackjack variant is special and fun to play. But, perhaps the biggest difference between them lies in how the cards are dealt for the dealer specifically. Generally, in the traditional version of the game, the dealer receives 2 cards during the first round, one face up and the other face down.
Some versions do this step a little differently by only giving the dealer one card at this point and another once the players have made their first move. In Double Exposure blackjack, both the dealer cards are dealt face-up, hence the name double exposure. The rest of the gameplay follows a unique set of rules too. This includes differences in payouts and house edge.
Double Exposure vs Classic Blackjack
We’ve already mentioned the first difference between classic blackjack and Double Exposure blackjack above. And, we’ve made you aware that there are differences in house edge and payouts too.
Let’s begin with the differences in payouts between the two versions. The highest paying hand in classic and Double Exposure is a natural blackjack; a hand made up of two cards that equal 21. The expected payout for this particular hand in classic blackjack is 3:2, while in Double Exposure blackjack, it’s 1:1.
Classic blackjack also includes an additional push or tie bet option, which gives you the win should you tie with the dealer. In Double Exposure blackjack, that rule plays out differently. Dealers always win on a push or tie. The only exception is if both you and the dealer tie with a natural blackjack each. In that case, you’ll take it, or nobody takes it (depending on the rules at your casino).
As far as house edge goes, we’ll admit that double exposure doesn’t necessarily offer the best odds when compared to other variations of the game. This game offers a house edge of 0.67% higher than the house edge in other blackjack games. American blackjack, for example, has a house edge of 0.35%. But, blackjack does still offer some of the best odds compared to other casino games like roulette, where the lowest is about 2.70%.
How to Play Double Exposure Online
Now that you know what Double Exposure blackjack is and you’re familiar with some of the differences between it and classic blackjack, we can move on to how to play. Follow the steps below to get you started.
You begin by selecting Double Exposure blackjack as the game you would like to play.
Then, set the game in motion by placing your bet. The minimum and maximum betting limits may differ from one casino to the other. But, generally, it starts at $1, while the maximum bet can be anywhere between $40 to even $1000.
You then press the deal button and watch the software deal you and the dealer your cards.
Based on the value of your initial 2 cards, you’ll decide on your next move. Of course, if at this early stage you receive a natural blackjack, you win, and another game will begin.
You have the option to hit, stand, double down or split. There are various blackjack strategy charts available to help you decide which move is best.
You win if you managed to build a hand that equals to 21, or as close to that as possible without going over. Your final hand must be of higher value compared to the dealers.
You lose if the dealer has a final hand that’s of higher value to yours.
Strategy to Help You Win
To really optimize your chances of winning big, we recommend using a blackjack strategy chart. These charts indicate exactly what the best move is for the hand you currently hold versus the dealer’s hand. We had a dedicated blackjack strategy guide with detailed information about blackjack strategy that applies in classic blackjack games as well as variants like Double Exposure. Give it a read after this.
