You won’t have seen rock and roll video poker listed as one of the commonly found video poker variations at casinos because it’s one of the most traditional forms of the game to date. Most casinos have advanced tremendously and don’t offer this format of the game anymore.
Lock and roll video poker is essentially a 3-reel video poker machine that only has one payline unlike modern video poker machines that have many paylines. With a modern machine, you simply press play or pull the lever to release the reels if you’re playing at a land-based casino. There is no decision making necessary to start the game. Lock and roll machines however require a bit more decision making.
After spinning the reels, the first time and paying careful attention to things like alignment, symbols and speed, you will be able to choose one, just two, or all three symbols, lock them in and then roll the reels. Your goal is to form a winning combination with the symbols in spinning, and the symbols you’ve locked in.
Experts have likened a lock and roll video poker machine to a three-card video poker machine. Both machines have a similar gameplay except for the obvious differences in payout and game effects.
How To Play Lock and Roll
If you are interested in playing the game but don’t know how, don’t worry. We’ve summarized the process of playing into a few simple steps for you below. We’ve already mentioned that the game is played on 3 reels and each reel will produce symbol at the end of the spin. If those symbols match, you will receive a payout. The common symbols include BARs, cherries, number 7s and blanks.
You’ll begin by making your bet and spinning the reels. Once you’ve clicked the spin button, the reels will begin to move and produce an outcome.
Once the machine lands on the first outcome, you will now have the choice to lock in one, two or all three of the reels.
If you lock in all three of the reels you consequently accept the first results and will receive the corresponding payout. If you choose to only lock one or two reels, you can let the remaining reels re-spin in an effort to produce a better match-up. A better match up isn’t guaranteed, though.
Once your second spin comes to a halt, all symbols will align and you will receive the equivalent payout. That’s if the final result offers a payout at all.
Lock and Roll Payouts
So, what kind of payouts can you expect from lock and roll video poker? Usually, casino game payouts are awarded on a for one basis. This essentially means that you’ll always lose a portion of your bet to the casino even if you are due a payout.
