European Roulette Wheel

The European Roulette is one of the most popular game variations as it has one of the most favourable house edges. This online roulette wheel has 37 pockets, with 36 of the pockets being either red or black. There is also a green pocket which beach is the number zero.

The numbers one to ten and numbers 19 to 28 show that the even numbers are black and the odd numbers are red. The numbers 11 to 18 and numbers 29 to 36, the odd numbers will be black, and the even numbers will be red.

American Roulette Wheel

The American wheel is quite similar to the European version; however, in this wheel, there is a 0 and a double zero green pocket. This means that the American roulette has 38 pockets rather than 37. Another interesting feature about this pocket is that consecutive numbers will be placed across the wheel. So, numbers nine will be opposite to number 10 and 35 to 36 etc. The additional green pocket affects the number sequence and bets of this version of the game.

French Roulette Wheel

The roulette wheel used in French roulette is the same as the one in the European version of the game. The odd and even numbers stay the same, and there is only one green pocket in this wheel.

How Roulette Wheel Works

How Roulette Wheel Works

With each variation of the wheel, you will notice that the numbers on the wheel are scattered and not in consecutive order. The placement of the numbers and colours has nothing to do with their arithmetic worth. This is one of the reasons that make roulette a balanced casino game in theory.

The sequences of the roulette numbers have been carefully designed to ensure that there is some randomness to them. One of the first things you’ll notice is how the numbers and sectors of the wheel are not of any relation.

For instance, every two adjacent pockets will have a different colour. A black one will follow a red pocket. And on either side of a green pocket, there will be a black or red pocket. This is different on the American roulette wheel.

The numbers and colours that appear on the roulette wheel will match those that are on the table. The game will start once all the bets have been made. The dealer will toss a white ball into the roulette wheel and spin it wherever the ball lands will be the winning number and colour.

How Many Numbers On A Roulette Wheel?

Not all roulette wheel has the same number of pockets. The European wheel has 36 red and black pockets and one green pocket. This gives the wheel a total of 37 numbers. The French wheel also has 37 pockets. Again 36 of the pockets are either red or black, and the 0 is in a green pocket.

On the other hand, the American wheel has 38 pockets. 36 of these pockets are either red or black. The other two pockets are green. One of the green pockets is 0, and the is 00.

Roulette Wheel Payout

Payouts of each of these roulette variations differ. The payout of each game will also differ. With the European Roulette wheel, the game offers players a house edge of 2.70%. The American Roulette House Edge is 5.26% because of the additional 00 pockets. In French roulette, there are two additional rules which drop the house edge to 1.35%. The En Prison and La Partage rules are why this variation of the game has the lowest house edge. Below we explain the various payout of the bets found in all three variations of the games:

  • Straight-up bets(Single number) pay 35 to 1.
  • Split bets(Two numbers) pay 17 to 1.
  • Street bets(Three numbers) pay 11 to 1.
  • Corner bets(Four-Number) pay 8 to 1.
  • A bet Five numberspay 5 to 1.
  • Columnand dozen bets pay 2 to 1.
  • Even moneybets will pay 1 to 1.

Roulette Wheel Layout: Bets

Apart from the common roulette bets, some bets can be made. These bets are made according to the layout of the roulette wheel. Also, these bets are only found on the European and French variations of the game. here is a list of the best

  • Neighbours Bet – the bet is made on 17 numbers using nine chips. These numbers are all close to 0. The numbers you will betting on include 0, 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32 and 35
  • Thirds of the Wheel – the point of this bet is to cove 1/3 of the wheel by betting on the 5, 8, 10, 11, 13, 16, 23, 24, 27, 30, 33, and 36
  • Zero Game – this is similar to the neighbours of zero bet but with few numbers. These numbers are so surrounding the 0. You will be on 0, 3, 12, 15, 26, 32, and 35.
  • Orphans Bet – these are the numbers that have not been used in the other bets. These are 1, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, and 34

Roulette Table

With the two-wheel versions, you may be wondering if the roulette table also has various variations. No, the Roulette table stays the same across all variations of this casino game. But there are few differences with each variation.

The only difference is the American version of the game will have a table that has one additional field to accommodate the double zero pocket.

Also, with the French version of the game, you will notice that the layout of the table and better names have been written in French; however, everything else is the same as the other two variations.

The roulette wheel numbers and colours correspond with those that are on the table, clearly indicating outside and inside beds and all the other different betting options.
